CHANGE YOUR ANTI-CORRUPTION STRATEGY, UMAHI TELLS FG

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has attributed the recent low rating of Nigeria in the corruption perception index of Transparency International to the reactive approach of the Federal Government in the fight against corruption in the country.

He stated this while receiving Southern Governors Wives, who were in the state on a two day summit for their quarterly meeting at Government House Abakaliki.

Nigeria dropped two places to rank one hundred and forty-six out of one hundred and eighty countries in the 2019 Transparency International’s corruption perception index released last week.

Since the publication of the document, Nigerians have been expressing divergent views on the rating given the anti corruption effort of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Umahi said while the rating did not represent the level of corruption in the country, the Federal Government must adopt proactive approach to the fight against graft.

He pointed out that the formation of Southern Governors Wives Forum had brought about administrative cohesion among his colleagues and assured them of their support.

The Chairperson of the Forum, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, said the summit was aimed at fostering socio-economic cooperation among wives of the Governors and commended the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, for setting up the group.

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Rachael Umahi, described the visit as beneficial to the people as they would empower some selected women and girls across the state.

Radio Nigeria observed that of the seventeen members of the Forum, nine were in attendance when Governor Umahi received them at Government House.
