BE PREPARED TO ACCOMMODATE WOULD-BE VICTIMS OF IMPENDING FLOOD — SEMA BEGS ANAMBRA COMMUNITY

REPORTER: IFEANYI CHINWUKO

The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency has appealed to residents of Ogbaru Local Government Area to accommodate their people who would be dislodged from the impending flood.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, made the appeal when he led a team of sister emergency agencies and partners on a flood awareness visit to Atani, the headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Addressing the people, Chief Odenigbo assured that the agency, in collaboration with other emergency agencies, was not leaving any stone unturned to see that holding centers where flood displaced persons would be sheltered would be comfortable.

The SEMA helmsman further noted that emergency like flooding, which is mostly a natural disaster, required compassionate spirit of brotherliness among the people.

Adding her voice, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South East Coordinator, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, while blaming the now yearly flooding occurrence on the depletion of Ozone layers, gave the hope that basic necessities would be provided at all the holding centers that would be established.

Mrs. Echeazu advised the people to abide by all the precautionary measures being put in place by the emergency agencies so as to minimize the impact of the flood on their communities.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr. Pascal Aniegbuna, and the traditional ruler of Akili Ogidi, Igwe Ikechukwu Nwafili, thanked the SEMA team and their partners for the timely sensitization visits and promised to make sure the message of flood preparedness got to their people.
