FEAR IN ANAMBRA AS ANOTHER PETROLEUM TANKER FALLS IN AGULU COMMUNITY

A tanker loaded with petroleum substance has fallen this morning (Friday) in front of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to an eye witness, the truck developed a gear problem while ascending the hilly road and could no longer move before the driver managed to control the vehicle to a point of safety.

The tanker blocked the entire road causing heavy vehicular traffic and panic as residents recalled that two fire incidents occasioned by fall of petroleum tankers had occurred in Onitsha in the early hours of today (Friday) and Wednesday afternoon, all within the last forty-eight hours.

However, the Anambra State Fire Service team arrived promptly as well as other security agents led by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, who came for on the spot assessment.

Men Of the Federal Road Safety Corps were also on ground to cordon off the area while redirecting vehicles to alternative routs.

In an interview, the Executive Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Media, Mr. Emeka Obinwa, who led members of the state emergency team to the scene of the incident, thanked God that the driver managed to control the tanker to safety.

Gathered that another tanker later arrived at the scene for trans loading of the petroleum products.
