ANAMBRA STATE GOVT TOLD TO ADDRESS DESTRUCTION OF FARMLANDS IN ANYAMELUM BY SUSPECTED HERDERS

The Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Willie Obiano to checkmate the activities of herdsmen who have allegedly invaded Ayamelum Constituency, wrecking havoc in the area.

The lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr. Uche Okafor made the call while supporting a motion for adjournment during the plenary.

Mr. Okafor alleged that the herdsmen recently destroyed farm lands belonging to his constituents in the course of grazing their cattle.

He regretted that the situation had compelled people of the area to stop going to their farms for fear of what could befall them.

Mr. Okafor urged Governor Obiano to direct the Committee saddled with the responsibility of settling dispute between herdsmen and host communities to rise to the occasion and arrest the ugly trend to prevent loss of lives.

The Speaker, Mrs Rita Maduagwu urged herdsmen in the State to honour the agreement they had with the State Government in the interest of peace.
