ANAMBRA STATE GOVT TO REVIVE 68 WATER FACILITIES — COMMISSIONER

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Anambra State Government says it has concluded plans to resuscitate over 68 water facilities across the state.

This is to ensure that the residents have access to portable water.

The Commissioner for Power and Water resources, Mr. Julius Chukwuemeka, made this known when members of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee went on familiarization tour to the ministry.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, said they were standing on the manifesto of the Governor to provide a clean, good green, sustainable Solar Power energy to replace the high cost diesel powered street lights across the state.

According to the Commissioner,
the present administration was poised to provide uninterrupted water supply both for the cities and rural communities.

She noted that approval had already been given for the resuscitation of the 68 water schemes to guarantee steady supply to the state.

Mrs. Uzoka said “the governor expects that when there is steady supply of water, it will impact on the health, business and the general wellbeing of the people.”

The Public Utilities Commissioner noted that the state fire service had also been repositioned to attend to any fire incident during the dry season.

She said fire trucks had been serviced, kits provided, Chemicals supplied to ensure that they respond rapidly to fire incidents and other emergency situations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Chimezie Ikwune, said the House was willing to partner the ministry to ensure that residents of the state benefitted immensely from the Soludo led administration.

Also, the Majority Leader, Mr. Ikenna Ofodeme alleged that many power transformers donated by state government were laying in some private houses because they were not installed thereby defeating their aim of procurement.

Other members of the Committee, including the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor, harped on the need for the ministry to carry the law makers along as they represent various communities in the state.

This is to assist them in taking full responsibility of government projects in their localities.
