ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT PARLEYS WITH SURVEYORS IN THE COUNTRY

The Anambra State Government says it has spent ₦44 million naira for the purchase of the state of the art instruments for the Surveying Department in the State.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Nkem, Okeke who represented the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano made this known during the opening ceremony of National Conference on Surveying and Mapping organized by the office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation held in Awka.
Chief Obiano said the State Government attached great importance to surveying and mapping and was prepared to give it its pride of place in the State.
“Importance of surveying and mapping profession in national development cannot be over emphasized that is why my administration has collaborated and will continue to collaborate with surveyors both private and civil servants in the survey department in moving our dear state forward.”
The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. Ebisintei Awudu, said Surveying Profession had contributed immensely to national development, innovations in science and technology globally and had positively impacted on the Surveying and Mapping Profession in all aspect.
He was of the opinion that Sustainable Development Goals and its targets as encapsulated in the United Nations Agenda could only be effectively monitored and evaluated through the integration of geospatial and statistical data for evidence-based assessment.
“The office of the Survey General of the Federation has leveraged on the instrumentality of Council and in recent past by securing approvals from various national councils.”
Mr. Awudu believed that the outcome of the deliberations by eminent Stakeholders would assist in identifying and addressing the prospects, opportunities and challenges in launching the country into more self-reliant economy.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Burutai, represented by Brigadier-General Adelekan Adeinfan said the significance of surveying and mapping to the Nigerian Army could not be over emphasized.
The event attracted the Pioneer Surveyor-General of the Federal, Mr. Isacc Adewola, students of Surveying Department, NnamdiAzikiwe University, Surveyors-General of various States.
