ANAMBRA SPORTS COMMISSIONER ASSURES ON ADEQUATE MEDICARE FOR INJURED SCHOOL PLAYERS

The Anambra SAnambra-Footballtate Commissioner for Sports, Uju Nwogu, has assured that the coach and players of Community Secondary School, Aguluezechukwu, who were involved in an auto crash would get proper medical attention.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victims were on their way to Rojenny Stadium, Oba, to honour their final match in the Anambra Academicals football competition on June 25.

Nwogu said Monday in Awka that the Governor Willie Obiano had already directed that the injured persons be given adequate medical attention.

“We are concerned about the life of every one of them and the governor has given his words.

“The commissioner for Health had assessed them too, so all hands are on deck to ensure that they are fully back,’’ she said.

When NAN visited the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, the Chief Medical Director, Dr Lawrence Ikeako, was supervising their treatment.

Ikeako said the victims had been stabilised and that Coach Benson Udeh who sustained spinal cord injury had to be taken to specialist facility due to the complication of his condition.

He added that the others with minor injuries had been moved to the surgical wards.

He assured the school’s authorities that there was high chances of full recovery with timely and specialist intervention.

“We had to make sure he was moved to Enugu because that is where there are facilities to manage this type of severe case,’’ she said.
