AFTER 3 MONTHS ASUU STRIKE: ESUT LECTURERS RESUME WORK, STUDENTS YET TO RETURN

Lecturers of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been directed to resume academic activities with immediate effect.

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), ESUT Chapter, Dr. Chinedu Aguba, gave the directive while briefing journalists in Enugu after a meeting with members of the Union.

Dr. Aguba maintained that ASUU would embark on another industrial action without any notice if the Government failed to meet the terms of agreement reached.

According to Dr. Aguba,  part of the agreement with the Federal Government is commencement  of re-negotiation of year 2009 agreement, which include salary increment, fund for revitalisation of Universities and releasing of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company, NUPEMCO license.

Dr. Aguba commended members of ASUU for mutual understanding during the strike and urged them to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties to ensure qualitative education for Nigerian students.

Members of the Union who were overwhelmed with joy, sang solidarity song.

The three months strike was suspended after a meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, a visit by Radio Nigeria to the university showed that some lecturers showed up for office and academic work but the students were yet to return to classes.

A student who pleaded anonymity told Radio Nigeria that academic work would resume in earnest after the elections.
