ABIA STATE PROSECUTES 32 PERSONS FOR VIOLATING SANITATION LAW

Thirty-two persons have been arrested in Umuahia for violating the Abia State Sanitation Law.
The offenders, who were apprehended at various points in Umuahia for not participating in the October clean-up, were tried in a mobile court headed by a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Nwamaka Alozie.
Among the areas where sanitation took place were Isi-gate, Aba Park, Orie-Ugba Market, Bende Road and Aba Road.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Abia State, Mr. Iheanyichukwu Ubani, expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the monthly sanitation in Umuahia.
Represented by the Director Pollution Control and Environmental Health in the Ministry, Mr. Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, the Permanent Secretary applauded Umuahia residents for exhibiting a high sense of responsibility in the clean-up.
He was also satisfied that the sanitation mobile court was active to handle quite a good number of defaulters found on road during the exercise.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Ubani advised Abia residents not to relax their guard, stressing that the disease was still in existence.
The Permanent Secretary maintained that people should be careful while interacting with other persons by observing all COVID-19 pandemic protocol to be safe from the scourge.
