ABIA STATE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ITS CITIZENS

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has reiterated his administration’s commitment towards the provision of affordable housing to its citizens.

Governor Ikpeazu made this known at Ubani, Umuahia during the ground breaking of the National Affordable Housing Delivery Program for Nigerian Workers in collaboration with Federal Mortgage Bank, Nigeria, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Nigerian Employers Consultative Association.

Governor Ikpeazu noted that the provision of adequate housing for workers in the State had been one of his administration’s main concerns.

The Governor commended the Federal Government for choosing Abia State as one of the pilot States for the establishment of the Housing scheme project in the South East geo-political zone.

He called on relevant stake holders in the housing industry to ensure that prices of building materials were affordable to address the hike in rents being witnessed in the country.

In a remark, the Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank Nigeria,  Mr Ahmed Dangiwa said that the program was designed to be implemented in different phases which would run as a pilot to deliver one thousand, four hundred housing units across the six geopolitical zones in the country.

According to Mr Dangiwa, each zone would have two hundred houses with one hundred units in the two selected States.

He commended the NLC, TUC and NECA for their commitment to the advancement of workers welfare as well as its numerous sacrifices made in the course of perfecting the framework for the program.

Highlight of the program was the unveiling of the architectural design of the housing project by the Governor.
