ABIA PLANS TO REOPEN SCHOOLS SOON — EDUCATION COMMISSIONER

The Abia State Government says arrangements are being made for full resumption of primary and secondary schools in the state. The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kanaelechi Nwangwa, made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Umuahia.

Dr. Nwangwa said no date had been fixed for full resumption of schools but the government would take a decision soon and communicate to the public the actual date of resumption, which according to him, would be in the best interest of the Abia child.

He said measures were already in place to ensure the safety of the children as government had provided all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, hand sanitizers, face masks, hand washing stations, while fumigation and clearing of school environment would be done.

Dr. Nwangwa, who observed that the pandemic had taken its toll on everyone, called on parents to support efforts of the state government to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on school children by ensuring they took advantage of the ongoing radio school programme.

The Commissioner for Education said government was determined to sustain and improve on the quality of education. He noted that the government planned to close substandard schools, made arrangement to employ more teachers as well as upgrading of facilities in state schools, all in a bid to improve quality of teaching and learning.
