ABIA INITIATES SECURITY FUND
Abia State Government is to launch a security fund to ensure adequate funding of security agencies in the State for effective crime control and prevention.
Briefing newsmen at Government House Umuahia, Chairman of the Security Committee and Deputy Chief of staff to the governor, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai said this had become necessary to sustain the prevailing peace in the area.
He noted that the fund raising was in line with the provision of the Abia State security fund law which empowered government to seek private sector support in combating all forms of criminality.
Chief Ukpai said the funds would be used for the provision of security vehicles, gadgets, equipment, training, welfare of security operatives in the State to enhance their capacity to nip crimes in the bud.
He explained that the State Government was determined to avert a repeat of the ugly past when kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements held the State to ransom.
The Deputy Chief of Staff promised that the funds would be put to good use and urged residents of the State to support the Scheme as crime prevention was a collective responsibility.
