20 AWAITING TRIAL INMATES IN EBONYI STATE FREED

Twenty inmates of National Correctional Facility Abakaliki on awaiting trial have been freed following jail delivery embarked upon by the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Justice Anslem Nwaigwe.

Justice Nwaigwe explained that fourteen of them were granted conditional bail and would leave the Correctional facility when they meet the conditions while four were granted bail on self recognition.

The Chief Judge who stated that two were also discharged, pointed out that the exercise was to complement efforts of the State Government towards enhancing social distancing amid Coronavirus pandemic.

The Controller, National Correctional Service in Ebonyi State, Mrs Emily Oputa described the exercise as being in line with Federal Government’s directive on the decongestion of correctional facilities.

The jail delivery was coming barely a week after the State Government granted unconditional pardon to thirty three convicts serving various terms in the facility.
