2 YEARS AFTER, ENUGU SEMA ATTENDS TO VICTIMS OF FIRE DISASTER

Enugu State Government has donated relief items worth millions of naira to victims of a fire incident which claimed three lives and some buildings at Ndeabor, Aninri Local Government Area of the State.

Presenting the items, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, ESEMA, Mrs. Nkechi Eneh said it was a way of showing concern to the plight of those affected by the government.

The Fire incident happened sometime in 2016 when a tanker carrying premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, ran into a block of buildings setting many shops and residential homes ablaze.

Before the arrival of officers of the Enugu State Fire Service on that day, properties worth millions of naira including three persons had been burnt beyond recognition.

Items presented to the surviving victims and relations of the deceased included, bags of rice, garri, beans, cartons of tomatoes and beverages, mattresses and building materials.

The Executive Secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Nkechi Eneh said the essence was to cushion the effect of the incident on those affected.

The Chairman, Aninri Local Government, Chief Ezikel Chukwu described the gesture as unprecedented and thanked the Governor for his all inclusive style of leadership.

In an interview, the Traditional Ruler of the community, Igwe Benedith Eze described the day of the incident as a black one for them and commended the Anirnri Council Chairman for ensuring that the victims were given succour.

Some of the victims noted that things had never been the same for them since the incident as they lost all they had but thanked God for life.

They appealed to the State Government to assist them with employment saying that their certificates were also gutted by the fire which could make it impossible for them to gain employment.
