GLOBAL COMMUNITY MARKS INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY DAY

The need for government to eradicate poverty to achieve the 2030 agenda for sustainable development through human solidarity is the focus as Nigerians join the global community to mark International Solidarity Day.

Human solidarity refers to the spirit of sharing and showing support.

According to the UN, solidarity is key to combating poverty, no wonder it placed December twenty every year as International Solidarity Day to create awareness on the relevance of advancing the international development agenda by 2030 and promoting understanding on the value of human solidarity.

A Public Affairs Analyst, Mr. Chidozie Eze, says solidarity paves way for unity and peaceful co-existence among people.

 Speaking on the significance of human solidarity in combating poverty, an Economist, Mr. Francis Obe noted that the society needed to collaborate with government in strategizing ways of improving on the economy.

Mr. Obe further called on various governments to create more enabling environment for businesses to thrive and to harness natural resources for the growth of the nation.

As the nation slides out from recession the Founder, YORDEL Africa, Enugu, Mr. Godwin Ogenyi urged the citizenry to show solidarity to one another and reflect on the circumstances that led the country into recession.

 The Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Community Relations, Chief Okezie Nwanjoku, observed that there was the need for Nigerians to seek support from developed nations as the country was not economically bouyant to achieve the 2030 agenda on sustainable development.

The respondents were of the opinion that there should be sincere implementation of poverty alleviation components of the budget.
