ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD SIGHT DAY, NIGERIANS ARE URGED TO GO FOR REGULAR EYE CHECK TO AVERT BLINDNESS

As the global ceyeommunity marks this year’s World Sight Day, Nigerians have been enjoined to regularly check the health status of their eyes to avert blindness.

A Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr Alphonsus Okoh gave the advice while speaking on the significant of the event.

 Dr Oko called on individuals that noticed any sight disorder to always seek early medical intervention with eye specialists.

World Health Organization’s report says that cataracts and glaucoma are the top causes of blindness and visual impairment.

Since World Sight Day was initiated in the year 2000 by the Sight First Campaign of Lions Club International Foundation, the event had been coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness in collaboration with the WHO.

The theme of this year’s event is “Make Vision Count”.
