FG AND DONOR-AGENCIES APPLAUDED FOR PROTECTING LIVES OF CHILDREN THROUGH IMMUNIZATION

The Federal Government and donor-agencies have been commended for protecting the lives of children through regular immunization and vaccination.

The Traditional ruler of Mbuluowehe Community in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Louis Nnamani gave the commendation during the commencement of on-going vaccination against measles in the area.

Igwe Nnamani who also praised Enugu State and Local Governments for their commitment to improving the health of children, promised to use his position to mobilize parents in the area to embrace the exercise.

Also speaking at the commencement of the exercise at

Amokpo-Nike Health Centre, the Wife of the Chairman, Enugu East Local Government, Princess Gloria Ugwu urged mothers and caregivers to present their children and wards for the immunization.

She explained that the exercise was necessary to reduce mortality among children aged between nine months and five years in the area.

The World Health Organization Measles Consultant for Enugu State, Mrs. Eunice Ajaye said she was impressed with the level of preparedness for the exercise and the competence of health workers in the Local Government Area.

In a speech, the Council Chairman, Prince Alex Ugwu stated that the commitment of the Enugu State Governor to the programme was unequalled as it provided the counterpart funds without delay.

Over five hundred children immunized during the commencement of the exercise in the area received gift items such as buckets, slippers and toiletries from the wife of the Chairman, Princess Gloria Ugwu.
