NBC TASKS BROADCAST MEDIA ON PATRIOTISM WORKSHOP
National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) wants radio and television stations in the country to live up to their mandates of promoting patriotism and development of the society.
The Director General of the Commission Mallam Is’haq Moddibo-Kawu gave the charge in Owerri during the opening of a three day workshop organized for members of staff of the Commission.
Mallam Modibbo-Kawu said developing nations across the world had enormous challenges, which the media as vehicle for change, should help to overcome.
He said that the workshop, which was organized for Monitoring Officers of the Commission was put in place to build their capacities in ensuring that broadcast organizations play according to the rules.
Mallam Kawu, who described the job of regulation as a difficult one, hinted that the Commission would soon acquire sophisticated equipment to assist in monitoring the activities of radio and television stations to contend with emerging challenges in the industry.
Mallam Kawu noted that efforts were being intensified to ensure full switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting in every part of the country.
The Director Broadcast and Monitoring in the Commission, Professor Armstrong Idachaba, said the NBC had come up with stiffer measures to deal with erring broadcast media organizations.
The training is being attended by officers from grade levels 12 to 14 in all the zonal and state offices of the commission.
