STAY AWAY FROM HATE SPEECHE TO AVOID OVERHEATING THE POLITY – SENATOR ANYANWU WARNS

As activities for the 2019 general election gather momentum, the representative of Imo East Senatorial District in the National, Chief Samuel Anyanwu wants Nigerians to stay away from hate speech to avoid overheating the polity.

Briefing newsmen in Owerri, Senator Anyanwu noted that campaign of calumny against political opponents negated the very essence of democracy thereby promoting bad blood and disunity among brothers.

The Lawmaker asserted that character assassination was a product of desperation, which if unchecked could not only bring animosity but also trigger violence.

Senator Anyanwu, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, explained that the founding fathers of the nation did not play politics of bitterness due to their spirit of sportsmanship.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the abuse of social media by some Nigerians in the name of politics, noting that experiences had shown that hate speeches did not always change the opinion of people during elections.

Senator Anyanwu said that he had directed his handlers and supporters not to engage on hate speeches under any guise as he would not hesitate to discipline anyone who did so on his behalf.
