ENUGU GOVT PUSHES FOR TIMELY COMPLETION OF WORK ON AKANU IBIAM INT. AIRPORT

The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi says a Committee will be set up to investigate and resolve issues surrounding the expansion of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi stated that stakeholders in the Aviation industry would be part of the Committee members.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe, the decision formed part of the resolutions reached during the State Executive Council Meeting held at Government House.

Mr. Anikwe explained that the Committee members would be drawn from the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority, the Nigeria Export Process Zones Authority, and will be joined by those from the State Ministries of Land, Commerce & Industry, and the ENPOWER Free Trade Zone Management.

He stated that the Stakeholders would unravel alleged disagreement among Federal Agencies operating in the State regarding ownership of vast hectares of land that the State Government approved around the airport for their use.

Mr. Anikwe noted that Enugu State was committed to the successful and timely completion of the Airport project.

He stated that Enugu State had donated vast hectares of land for the expansion of the International Airport and was tackling other challenges which include relocating a local market, to encourage the Federal Government to speedily complete the project.
