EBSIEC RELEASES LGA ELECTION TIME TABLE.

ebonyi inecEbonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC has released the Timetable for the conduct of Local Government Election in the State.

At a meeting with representatives of Political Parties and Security Agencies at EBSIEC Headquarters in Abakaliki, the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Jossy Eze announced that the Election would take place on the twenty second of April, this year.

Chief Eze urged all candidates planning to vie for Elective positions to approach EBSIEC for the purchase of forms at the cost of ₦500, 000.00 for Chairmanship Position and ₦100, 000.00 for Councillorship Position.

“I formally give the political parties the go-ahead to start their electioneering campaigns towards election to local government councils in Ebonyi State.”

Meanwhile, Governor David Umahi has signed the 2017 Electoral and Related Matters bill recently passed by the House of Assembly into Law.

At the event at Government House Abakaliki, Chief Umahi said ₦216,000,000.00 (two hundred and Sixteen Million Naira) had been budgeted for the conduct of local government election and called on the people to participate actively.

“With this, the ball is now with EBSIEC to blow the whistle for the political parties to start political activities in our local government areas. The thinking of party leadership is that we will show the world example of what democracy is by making sure that our party primaries is based on the people.”

The new Electoral Law provides for Open Secret Ballot System and replaces the controversial Electoral Law which resulted in the nullification of Local Government Election conducted by the immediate past administration in the State.
