The Federal Government has approved the construction of a Modular Refinery in Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti, who broke the news at the official commencement of the construction of the 11.1km Obehie – Umudobia – Owaza Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area, said the Modular Refinery would be sited inside the Abia Industrial and Innovative Park (AIIP) in the area.

Governor Otti noted that the Modular Refinery, when completed, would accelerate rapid socio-economic development of the region and fast track the restoration of years lost to poor leadership.

He declared that the era of neglecting Ukwa people was over, stressing that the construction of the road would boost marketability and viability of the AIIP.

According to the Governor, the proposed 12 months completion period of the project will be impossible if the people fail to give the required support to the contractor and his team.

Responding to various appeals from the people of Ukwa West, Governor Otti promised that reconstruction of the Umuzike -Obokwe -Ngwaiyiekwe Road would soon begin, having been approved in the 2025 budget.

He assured them of provision of portable water and restoration electricity in Asa land before the end of March 2025 and directed the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Monday Okechuku to visit the area and ascertain what would be required to restore power to the people.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Otumchere Oti, explained that Governor Alex Otti had continued to connect communities through road infrastructure.

He described the road as a gate way into Asa and the AIIP as well as Etche Community in Rivers State.

In their goodwill messages, a former federal legislator in Old Imo State, Dame Victoria Akanwa and a former SSG, Pastor Ralph Egbu, alongside other opinion leaders in the area applauded Governor Alex Otti for his landmark achievements across the state.

They appealed for the restoration of electricity and provision of portable water in the area amongst other needs of the people of the area, especially alleged marginalization in civil service.
