Christians have been urged to shun the life of hypocrisy as they embark on Lent.

An Anglican priest, the Venerable Ebenezer Ohuocha, gave the advice in a service the mark Ash Wednesday at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia.

Speaking on the topic, “Return to God with pure Heart,” the Venerable Ohuocha admonished Christians to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and total repentance from sin as they commence the journey of Lent.

He explained that Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which is the commencement of forty days fasting and prayers that ends on Easter Sunday.

The priest encouraged the faithful to endeavour to embark on the 40-day spiritual exercise.

The service featured the administration of Ash on the forehead of members and Holy Communion.
