GOV UZODIMMA SOLICITS PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES OF FALLEN HEROES

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has called on the private sector and patriotic citizens to join hands to ensure that widows and children of fallen heroes are properly taken care of.
Governor Uzodimma made the remark during an event to mark Armed Forces and Remembrance Day held at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kalu Square, Owerri.
He promised that government would continue to support the families they left behind.
“Today reminds us our responsibility as citizens of the country, who are patriotic, to also consider and check the welfare and well-being of those left behind by the death of this our great heroes and herosnees, how the families, their wives, husbands, their relations, their children, are fairing.
“It is not only the duty and Job of the government to ensure that the death of great heroes do not bring continuous sorrow and hardship to the relatives left behind,” Gov. Uzodimma stated.
Senator Uzodimma thanked the leadership of Nigeria military for the commitment they had shown every year in making the ceremony successful.
The ceremony featured laying of wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier, 21 gun salute, a minute silence for the fallen heroes, signing of armed forces register by the Governor and releasing of pigeon, symbolizing peace.
A special prayer was also offered for the repose of the souls of the soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice in protecting the teritorial integrity of the nation.
