ARMED FORCES & REMEMBRANCE DAY: SOLUDO PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTES TO SECURITY FORCES

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State says the sacrifices of armed forces should not be taken for granted, especially the supreme sacrifice they pay in maintaining the peace and unity of the nation.
Governor Soludo made this known during the 2024 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
January 15, every year is set aside for sober reflection on the significance of the Armed Forces.
It is a day to celebrate the dead and the living among them and to drum support for the ex-service men and women for laying down their lives to preserve the unity of the nation.
Speaking shortly after the inspection of the parade and wreath- laying, Governor Soludo commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, who have continued to protect the territorial integrity of the country through their sacrifices, even as he noted that Anambra State had benefited in their efforts at restoring peace in the area.
The Governor pledged to continue to support and better the lots of families of fallen heroes.
Governor Soludo also paid glowing tribute to men and women currently engaged in internal security operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism and banditry across the country.
The Governor led the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze and other service chiefs to lay wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
The State Executive Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Anambra State Council, Major Benneth Agbogu, urged both the Federal and state governments to improve welfare of ex-service men in the country.
Highpoints of the event were the release of pidgins by the Governor as symbol of peace and twenty-one gun salute.
