ANAMBRA: NAWOJ DEMANDS INCLUSION OF MORE WOMEN IN GOVERNANCE

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has reiterated its called for the implementation of 35% affirmative action to bring on board a greater number of women in the process of governance.
The Vice President of NAWOJ, Sout East zone, Comrade Stella Igboka, made the call when she led some members of the Association on familiarization visit to the transition committee Chairman, Idemili South Local Government, Mrs. Amaka Obi, in her office .
Describing women folks as an integral part of nation building, comrade Igboka claimed that women are more compassionate and performed better when assigned responsibilities.
The VP of NAWOJ, while acknowledging that Mrs. Amaka Obi, is the only woman TC Chairman in Anambra State, Commended her for her developmental strides within one year, which included sinking of boreholes, reconstruction of INEC local government office, initiating programmes targeted at development and empowerment of women and youths.
Comrade Igboka, who called on people of the council area to give Mrs. Obi their unflinching support, also urged government to appoint more women in the affairs of governance.
Responding TC Chairman Mrs. Amaka Obi expressed gratitude for the visit noted that her exemplary leadership is a testimony to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to transform the state into a livable and prosperous homeland.
She also urged NAWOJ to increase their campaign for more women inclusion in political and public offices.
Other members of the delegation, comrades Maureen Ezeokeke and Ebele Eze appreciated the giant turn around being witnessed in Idemili South Council Area, since Amaka Obi assumed office, urging her to keep the flag flying.
