ALLEGED BRIBERY: SSA READS RIOT ACT TO TRANSPORT TASKFORCE, PROMISES TO CREATE BUS STOPS IN ABAKALIKI

Ebonyi State Government has commenced plans to create bus stops within Abakaliki town as a way of tackling some alleged harassments faced by commuters and reduce the sufferings of travelers in the area.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Transport, Chief Fredrick Nwogbaga made this known while interacting with Radio Nigeria in Abakaliki on the alleged illegal collection of bribes by some members of taskforces from the ministry, enforcing the park to park dropping of passengers in the state.

The aimed of creating the taskforces is to reduce accidents and transport related crimes in Abakaliki metropolis.

Chief Nwogbaga explained that the new government under the leadership of Chief Francis Nwifuru had mapped out plans to make movement of travellers easier.

He enjoined members of the public to be patient with them by abiding by the rules of stoping at the government approved parks, pending when the issues would be resolved.

Chief Nwogbaga maintained that the Ministry of Transport would not be mild with any taskforce found guilty of extorting motorists, and urged the people to be law abiding to avoid any form of harassment on the way.

The SSA on Transport emphasized that the state government nor the ministry did not authorize the teams to collect any physical cash but to refer defaulters to the government approved account details to settle their penalties.
