LAWMAKER CRIES FOR HELP OVER 20 EROSION SITES IN BENDE NORTH CONSTITUENCY

The member representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Nnamdi Ibekwe, has decried the menace of erosion the area.
Mr. Ibekwe made this known in an interview with journalists in Umuahia.
He explained that the area had at least 20 active erosion sites while over 100 residents and farm lands had been affected.
The lawmaker noted that he had embarked on sensitization and tree planting awareness as well as construction of culvert in some of the major roads to check erosion but expressed regret that the situation had persisted.
Mr. Ibekwe called on relevant agencies of the state and federal governments to come to the aid of his constituents and find a lasting solution to the erosion menace.
He mentioned Umuenyere Alayi, Akoli Imenyi and parts of Ibere, amongst others as some of the areas mostly affected in the constituency.
The law-maker solicited urgent intervention measures to address the situation.
