SOLUDO GOVT PLEDGES TO RAISE MORE YOUTH ENTREPRENEURS IN ANAMBRA
REPORTER: BEN ILECHUKWU
Anambra State Government says it is committed to raising over one thousand youth entrepreneurs annually through the “One Youth, Two Skills Entrepreneurship Scheme.”
Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated this in a message to a brainstorming session on ways to facilitate the entrepreneurship agenda of his administration.
Participants in the brainstorming session were carefully selected from the pool of talented and qualified Entrepreneurship Development Institutes around Anambra State.
They are expected after the two day session, anchored by the UNIZIK Business School, to have been equipped with the necessary knowledge to train the youth population of the state in various skills.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, Governor Soludo said at various fora since his inauguration that the programme “is in tandem with his campaign promises.”
The Governor further noted that the “One Youth Two Skills” initiative was designed to develop and upskill young Anambra people and enhance their productive capacities to contribute to the economic development of the state in years to come.
In a remark, the Chairman, One youth two skills Entrepreneurship Scheme, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, congratulated the various chosen Entrepreneurship Development Institutes (EDIs)for scaling through the rigorous process of selection, urging them to patriotically handle the task of raising the next generation of entrepreneurs for the state.
The Director UNIZIK Business School, Professor Emma Okoye, who recalled Governor Soludo’s passion for the programme, assured of their resolve to deliver on the assignment.
Professor Okoye also stated that the age long declining trend of “Igba- boi” (apprenticeship) initiative of the Igbo people would be reinvigorated into a modern and sustainable scheme, considering how useful it has been over the years.
The Vice Chancellor , Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone, harped on the importance of the programme, which he anticipated would become a source of employment for the teeming youth as well as reducing poverty rate in the society.
The One Youth youth, Two Skills entrepreneurship scheme is a large-scale youth entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and
empowerment programme of the Governor Soludo led administration launched in October 2022, that is run and managed by the Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development.
