The National Population Commission (NPC) says it will continue to promote strategic partnership with stakeholders in the media industry to ensure the success of the 2023 Census.

The Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State in the Commission, Chief Chidi Ezeoke, made this known during a capacity building workshop for journalists on “Effective Reporting of the 2023 Population and Housing Census” held in Awka.

Chief Ezeoke said the capacity building workshop was critical as the media was part of the tripod to be used in disseminating the census activities to citizens.

He assured that the NPC would continue to engage the media to ensure effective mobilization of the citizens to be involved in the exercise.

Chief Ezeoke appreciated the Anambra State Government for its support to ensure the success of the census.

At the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, urged the citizens to embrace the exercise to ensure generation of reliable data for national planning.

Mr. Nwosu, also challenged media practitioners to ensure the effective communication of the census processes to the people to help them appreciate its importance to national development.

Contributing, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, advised the media to disseminate the census information effectively to avoid undercounting during the exercise.

The Director, NPC in Anambra State, Dr. Joachim Ulasi, noted that the workshop was aimed at sensitizing media practitioners to the innovations put in place for the 2023 Census.

In a reaction, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State, Dr. Emeka Odogwu, said the training would help the media practitioners to scale down what they learnt to colleagues and inform the citizens adequately.

The event featured a question and answer session to deepen knowledge of the processes and technological innovations in the 2023 Census.
