REPORTER: NDU NWANNAH

The National Population Commission (NPC) has appealed to qualified residents of Anambra State to participate fully in the ongoing adhoc personnel recruitment for the 2023 Census.

The Federal Commissioner representing the State in the Commission, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, made the appeal in Awka during an event to inaugurate the Online E-Recruitment Portal for next year’s Population and Housing Census.

The National Population Commission is shopping for about 30,000 adhoc personnel in Anambra State to drive the success of the 2023 Census.

The eight categories of personnel required are Facilitators, Field Coordinators, Training Centre Administrators, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, Data Quality Managers, Quality Assurance Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators.

The recruitment, which commenced on October 27, would end by December 10, this year.

The Federal Commissioner explained that the quality of recruitment process would determine the reliability of the data to be collected during the census.

Mr. Ezeoke charged residents of the area to actively take part in the process, assuring that most of the adhoc staff would be sourced from the communities in the state.

He noted that the commission decided to embark on online recruitment to promote transparency in the process.

Mr. Ezeoke noted that the commission would in addition to the Headquarters and State Recruitment Review Teams, constitute a Local Government Recruitment Review Team, which would help citizens in difficult terrains to apply for the census adhoc jobs.

Mr. Ezeoke assured that all the measures being put in place were to enable the communities to be part of the exercise to ensure a credible and acceptable outcome.

The Director of the NPC in Anambra State, Dr. Joachim Ulasi, urged citizens not to relocate to their villages during the census as they would be adequately counted to enhance future national planning.

Dr. Ulasi hinted that the bulk of the adhoc staff would come from enumerators, who were expected to possess Senior School Certificate to be considered.

He advised those who encountered difficulties, while applying for the adhoc work to use different networks to ensure successful applications.

Applicants were asked to register through 2023 censusrecruitment.nationalpopulation.gov.ng.
