DESIST FROM EXTORTING MEMBERS OF PUBLIC WHO RUN TO YOU FOR ASSISTANCE — AIG WARNS POLICE OFFICERS
REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone13, Ukpo, Mr. Abutu Yaro, has charged the Commissioners of Police in Anambra and Enugu States to always exhibit professionalism and supervise the activities of their subordinates.
The AIG stated this when the Commissioners of Police of the two commands and commanders of Tactical teams in the Zone paid him a courtesy visit at the zonal headquarters, Ukpo to familiarise with him after he assumed duty a few days ago.
In a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Nkiruka Nwode, the AIG charged the two Commissioners of police to ensure proper supervision of officers and men, especially during the yuletide and electioneering periods.
According to the release, the AIG used the opportunity to warn all criminal elements terrorising the Zone to leave the States as he would live no stone unturned to fish them out.
He also warned all officers within the Zone to desist from extorting members of the public who run to them for assistance.
Mr. Yaro said the Zone is a crime cracking entity and officers should work with integrity, avoid abuse of power and create enabling environment for members of the public to see the police as their friend.
