REPORTER: NDU NWANNAH

The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced the Trial Census Post Enumeration Survey (PES) in Anambra State.

The Federal Commissioner Representing Anambra State in the Commission, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, announced this while briefing journalists in Awka.

The Trial Census Post Enumeration Survey, which will last from 18 to 29 October, is being conducted in eleven villages in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State and select Enumeration Areas in the councils, where full Trial Census took place across the rest of the geopolitical zones in the country.

Mr. Ezeoke said the programme was in line with the recommendations of the United Nations to ensure a credible process.

He noted that the Trial Census was a huge success in Anambra State, stressing that the aims of the survey were to identify coverage and content errors with a view to improving the conduct of the census.

While pledging the readiness of the commission to conduct a credible exercise, the Federal Commisioner announced that NPC had engaged an Independent Team to carry out 2023 Post Census Survey.

Mr. Ezeoke called for the support of stakeholders in Oba Community to ensure the success of the Trial Post Enumeration Survey.

Clarifying issues raised during the briefing, Anambra State Director of the NPC, Dr. Joachim Ulasi, said the deployment of modern technology had helped the commission to enhance the generation of reliable and verifiable data.

Dr. Ulasi assured the people that the Electronic Recruitment for Ad-hoc personnel to be used during the 2023 Census would be done early to enable the commission to properly verify all applicants.

The Trial Population and Housing Census was conducted across the country from July 20-24, 2022.

It was a rehearsal aimed at evaluating the census operations ahead of the 2023 National Census.

NPC uses the Post Enumeration Survey in checking the accuracy of the Trial Census and will also be carried out after the 2023 Census.
