SAVE EBONYI FROM INSECUITY — ONYIKE BEGS FG

A former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ebonyi State, Chief Abia Onyike, has decried the increasing threats to the security of lives and property in some parts of the state, especially the recent killings and abductions in Onicha Local Government Area.

Chief Onyike, made his feelings known in Abakaliki on the recent alarming state of security breaches in Ebonyi State.

Chief Onyike mentioned the attack on the convoy of the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Isu, Prof. Reuben Okechukwu on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the boundary between Isu and Agba in Ishielu L.G.A as the latest of such security challenge.

Chief Onyike lamented that within a space of six months, three prominent indigenes of Isu Okoma Community have allegedly been shot dead by hoodlums at different times, just as the traditional ruler of the Community, Eze Ambrose Ogbu was reportedly kidnapped six months ago and is yet to regain his freedom.

He also refered to the President of the town union who was allegedly killed by armed men few months ago; an educationist, Alhaji Iyi Oji, was said to have been shot dead just as the proprietor of a hotel located in the area was allegedly murdered in cold blood in his business premises, and private security personnel attached to a philanthropist in the area, was also reportedly killed.

The former Information Commissioner called on the Federal Government and the Inspector-General of Police to wade into the security crises in Onicha LGA with a view to unraveling the mystery behind the continuous bloodshed in the area by miscreants.

He equally urge the Ebonyi State Government and authorities of Onicha LGA to rise to the security challenges, which had resulted in the death of prominent citizens in the area, adding that the primary responsibility of the government is to maintain law and order so as to protect lives and property.
