NSCDC APPREHENDS 7 SUSPECTED VANDALS IN IMO
REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Imo State Command has arrested seven persons for allegedly vandalizing and carting away pedestrian barricades used in protecting passersby against road accidents at the Imo State University Junction in Owerri.
Parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, the Acting Commandant of the Corps in the State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Odimba, said the arrest followed a tip off.
He explained that the NSCDC was determined to protect the critical infrastructure of the government and warned that surveillance had been intensified to apprehend anyone tampering with government’s property.
Mr. Odimba, who is a Deputy Commandant of the Corps, lamented that the removal of such protective rails by vandals posed threat to the lives of residents and vowed that those arrested would be prosecuted.
The suspects admitted carting away the barricades, which were constructed with iron and galvanized pipes but insisted that they did not cut them as claimed.
They rather claimed that the materials were already pulled away following an accident involving a truck, which occured in the area.
The NSCDC recently apprehended persons, who vandalized facilities at a zoo located in Nekede Owerri West Local Area of the state.
