The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned serving Corps members against deploying social media to spread fake news and hatred as it negates the objectives and concept of the scheme.

The Director General of NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, gave the warning in a message to the swearing in ceremony of 2022 Batch A Stream 2 Corps members at Permanent Orientation Camp Afikpo.

Major General Ibrahim represented by the State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, charged the corps members to maintain high level of discipline and use their service year to deepen national unity and cohesion.

The Director General explained that their deployment outside their states of origin was to further deepen their understanding of the socio-cultural and political development of the country and urged them to be security conscious.

“As you are already aware, one of the major objectives of NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration.

“This informed your deployment away from your state of origin and assemblage here from diverse ethnic nationalities, religious and socio economic background,” he explained.

Major General Ibrahim advised the corps members to continue to distance themselves from cultism, drug abuse and other acts capable of compromising the objectives of their services to their fatherland.

“Let me remind you that the oath of allegiance you took here is significant as it is expected to guide your conduct in the service year and have everlasting influence on your life after service,” he said.

Major General Ibrahim enjoined the youth corps members to avail themselves of the opportunity provided through Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme to equip themselves economically and become self reliant after their service year.

Radio Nigeria gathered that one thousand, three hundred and ninety-three corps members took oath of allegiance at the event.
