MULTIPLE AUTO CRASH INJURES MANY IN ANAMBRA

Some commuters sustained various degrees of injury in a multiple road accident, which occurred on Nnamdi Azikiwe University Temporary Site Junction Awka axis of the Enugu- Onitsha expressway in Anambra State.
Five vehicles including a truck, Hilux van, Honda car, shuttle bus, and eighteen sitter bus were all involved in the road crash.
According to an eye witness, Mr. Joseph Ugochukwu, though the Hilux Security van was driving against traffic, a truck that had break failure was the actual cause of the accident.
Mr. Ugochukwu narrated that the driver of the Honda car was trying to join the expressway from the Okpuno lane when the truck driver lost control and rammed into two buses loading along the highway.
Other eyewitnesses and sympathizers, including Ifunanya Ene, condemned the practice of allowing vehicles to load along the expressway and called on both the Federal and State governments to provide a suitable motor park in the area to avoid future occurrence.
They, however, told Radio Nigeria that about five commuters who had boarded the commercial vehicles, including one of the drivers, were seriously injured and taken to hospital by public spirited individuals.
The situation caused traffic congestion situation on the ever busy junction as sympathizers made effort to pull some of the badly damaged vehicles of the road.
As at the time of filing this report, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC Anambra State Sector Command), Mahret Onabe, told our correspondent that she was yet to get the details of the crash that occurred at about 2:30pm on Saturday.
