EBONYI LAUNCHES COVID-19 MASS VACCINATION, TARGETS 1.5MN PEOPLE

Ebonyi State Government says it targets to vaccinate over 1.5 million residents of the state with COVID-19 vaccines.
Governor David Umahi stated this during the launch of COVID-19 mass vaccination at Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki.
Statistics by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) indicate that Ebonyi State recorded 2,159 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 43 mortalities since the outbreak of the virus in the state.
Governor Umahi said the state was committed to ensuring that all residents of the state above 18 years get vaccinated in no distant time.
He called on religious and community leaders to help the state government in the sensitization of the people to disregard misconceptions about the vaccine.
The Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, said the state government had approved 92 public and 11 private health facilities for the mass vaccination programme.
He stated that the target of the campaign was to vaccinate 50% of the people, noting that 94,322 persons had been vaccinated.
A Representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Nigeria, De Kazidi Molumbo, in a message promised to support Ebonyi State Government towards achieving Universal coverage in COVID-19 vaccination.
The event was attended by religious and community leaders as well as Public office holders.
