ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS 21 LG TRANSITION COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN, MEMBERS

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Anambra House of Assembly has confirmed 21 new transition committee chairmen to manage the administration of their various Local Government Areas for a period of three months.

The confirmation followed a letter by the Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo asking the law makers to approve the nominations.

During the plenary, the Chairman House Committee on Screening and Election Matters, Mr. Chukwuma Okoye, representing Awka South constituency 2, reported that they carefully went through the nominees and found them worthy to serve as Transition Committee Chairmen and Members of the 21 local government areas of the state.

Mr. Okoye, who is also the Deputy Speaker, therefore moved a motion that the House accept the report of the Screening committee as a working document, an appeal the lawmakers granted.

The House later dissolved into Electoral college where they considered the nominees and stepped down two councilor members nominated for Ezianam ward in Anambra West, and Ukpor Ward 5 in Nnewi South Local Government Area following a petition presented to the House.

The Speaker admonished the newly confirmed TC Chairmen to be focused and work towards attracting more development to the grassroots in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s programmes.

In an Interview, the Transition Committee Chairmen of Ayamelum Local Government Area, Mr. Alphonsus Ofumele, and his Njikoka counterpart, Mr. Chinedu Ononiba, as well as Mr. Shedrack Azubuike of Orumba South noted that their first step would be to ensure that peace and unity exist in their areas as it is the panacea to greater development.
