REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has expressed delight with the judgment of the election petitions tribunal which affirmed his declaration as the winner of the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri, the Governor said the unanimous judgment of the three judges in Abuja on Friday was a confirmation that the people of the state overwhelmingly voted for him at the poll.
Governor Uzodimma promised to remain focused in the efforts of his administration to develop the state.
The Governor, who contested the election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled a total of 540,308 votes to defeat his closest opponent Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 71,503 votes to emerge second while senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP) came third with 64,081 votes.
Both candidates (PDP and LP) had approached the tribunal, which sat in Abuja over security concerns, to nullify the election alleging irregularities in the conduct of the poll.
Meanwhile PDP and LP are yet to react to the judgment as at the time of filing this report.
