REPORTER: CHINELO OKORO

Ebonyi State Government has reviewed upwards the contract sum for the rehabilitation of the Runway at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport to N17.8bn.

Governor Francis Nwifuru announced this at the inspection tour of some project as part of activities marking his one year in office.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, who was accompanied by some of the stakeholders in the state, members of the State House of Assembly and the State Executive Council members noted that the contract sum which was originally N13 billion was jacked up by 70% after the state government had released N9.5 billion to the contractor.

He noted that the upward review followed the Contractor’s demand for variation due to the rising foreign exchange value in the country.

Governor Nwifuru also visited Ogbaga-Nwofe Road, which is being reconstructed with concrete pavement as well as the construction site for a smart school at Izzi High School Ishieke.

At the construction site for Izho and Amaeze Housing Estate in Ishielu Local Government Area initiated to resettle those who were rendered homeless as a result of Ezza Ezilo and Ezilo communal war, the Governor expressed sadness over the delay of the project and threatened to terminate some of the contracts.

Mr. Nwifuru also visited Pipe Production Company Ishieke where he promised to ensure that the facility recommenced production of pipes soon following the installation of new machines to complement what was left behind after it was partially vandalized at the twilight of the last administration in the State.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oguzor Ofia-Nwali, had earlier assured the Governor that all was set for the Company to start operations and commended him for his interest to expand the company.
