IMO RESIDENTS COMPLY WITH IPOB SIT-AT-HOME ORDER

REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

Residents of Imo State were forced to stay in their homes today in compliance with an order by members of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, that nobody should be seen outside their places of abode.

The separatist group had threatened to unleash mayhem on anybody who failed to observe the sit-at-home order which was meant to commemorate those that died during the Nigeria-civil war.

All the major roads that lead to Owerri were deserted and the streets within Owerri, the state capital, were without the usual human and vehicular traffic.

Most of the public and private schools in the state were under lock except senior secondary school students that are writing external examination, who reported to their schools very early in the morning.

Banks and some government offices were not left out as there was no visible sign of human presence within the premises.

The Imo State police command had urged residents of the area to ignore the threats and go about their lawful businesses while assuring them of the readiness of security agencies to protect lives and property of citizens.
