REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Ebonyi State Police Command says it has initiated necessary administrative measures against some police officers who were captured in a viral video manhandling some youths in Abakaliki.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, condemned the unprofessional conduct of the policemen.
It emphasised that detailed investigations into the incident had commenced to ensure justice and appropriate disciplinary action.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mrs. Augustina Ogbodo, as saying that no form of incivility to members of the public or any form of misconduct by any police officer would be tolerated under her watch.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police urged residents of the state to remain calm with a promise that any police officer found wanting in the incident would be met with severe disciplinary actions.
In the video that has gone viral on line, a team of police operatives with SWAT marked Hilux Van were seen horsewhipping and kicking a group of young men while trying to force one of them into the waiting police van.
