REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Wife of the President, has donated a Digital Economy Centre and E-Learning facilities to Ebonyi State Government.

In a message at the handover of the Centre at State Secretariat Abakaliki, the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, explained that the donation was to provide access to technology for women and girls under National Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy of NITDA.

Apart from helping to achieve 95% coverage of digital literacy in Nigeria by 2030, the donation of the Digital Economy Centre and E-Learning facilities is to ensure full participation of women in the digital revolution.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs and Strategy, Office of the First Lady, Alhaji Wahab Alawiye-king, the Wife of the President, said apart from Ebonyi, other states that had benefited from the project were Oyo, Cross River, Bauchi and Niger as well as the Federal Capital Territory while efforts were on to equip more centres in the remaining states.

She enjoined women and girls to take full advantage of the centre to equip themselves and compete favorably in the emerging digital economy in Nigeria.

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Mary-maudline Nwifuru, represented by the Deputy Governor of the State, Mrs. Patricia Obila, noted that the state government was willing to leverage on the Centre to create digital jobs for women and appealed for the donation of more computers as the one supplied were not enough.

The Director General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Tony Nwizi, who serves as NITDA’s Contact Person in the state, said the state government was ready to secure the centre and deploy the facilities for the benefit of the state.

Radio Nigeria observed that e-learning activities had commenced at the centre, fully equipped with computers and other ICT logistics.
