GUNMEN BURN POLICE STATION, ATTACK LG HEADQUARTERS IN ANAMBRA

Suspected hoodlums numbering about thirty have reportedly set ablaze the Neni Police station in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspects, who were said to be armed to the teeth, also attacked the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters at Neni.

According to eyewitness accounts, the dare -devils attacked the area between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday, shouting: “DPO must go, he has overstayed,” “he has stayed in Anaocha for over 15 years.”

Another source alleged that the hoodlums also whisked away some police operatives, including a female police personnel at the police station.

The eyewitness said the hoodlums alleged that Anaocha Police Station had become another SARS station in the area.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Police command in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga,
confirmed the incident.

He said though the hoodlums attacked the police station with Improvised Explosive Devices, (IEDs), they however, did not take away any arms, and did not whisk away any police personnel.

Mr. Ikenga claimed the hoodlums were successfully repelled by the superior fire-power of the police operatives who engaged them and forced them to flee.

The Police image maker further noted that the police operations were still ongoing in the area as he would continue to brief journalists on developments.
