REPORTER: UCHE NEDEKE
The Anambra State House of Assembly has renewed the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen for the 2 local government areas in the state for another three months.
The House extended the tenure in line with section 208 of the Local Government Law 1999 as amended, as requested by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in a letter sent to the House and read by the Speaker, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze.
The House later went into Committee of the Whole to form electoral college for the re- appointment.
The law makers scrutinized the list, made amendments and carried the names as submitted by the Governor.
The Speaker of the House, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, read out the confirmation of the re-appointments while the lawmakers supported through a voice vote.
The Speaker called on the Transition Committee Chairmen to remain focused, face their duties and avoid areas of conflict as the sole aim was to ensure that the agenda of the Governor was localized in their local government areas.
He enjoined them to work in partnership with all stakeholders in their various areas to see that they make impact on the lives of the people.
In a reaction, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr. Neville Uchendu, said his committee would focus on sensitization of the youths against illicit drugs, widow empowerment, beef up security and visit schools in the area to ensure that the agenda of the present government was internalized in all communities in the area.
Radio Nigeria gathered that there were some reshuffling in the councilors of some wards while that of the Chairmen remained same.
