AGAIN FIRE CONSUME NNEWI TIMBER MARKET
REPORTER: ONYINYE CHIJIOBI
Fire has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the Nnewi Timber Market.
The fire was said to have started at about 11am on Tuesday.
According to some traders interviewed by Radio Nigeria, the fire was believed to have been triggered by some bush burners at an erosion site near the Timber Market.
One of them, Mr. Matthew Okorie, said it had become a ritual as they experienced fire outbreaks yearly.
Another trader, who pleaded anonymity, whose goods were affected, called on government to drill a borehole and station permanent fire fighting trucks in the market to help control fire whenever the need arose.
Meanwhile, an other respondent, Mr. Michael Azor, commended men of the State Fire Service for reporting to the scene of the incident on time.
It was also gathered that Fire truck was deployed from Awka to help in controlling the fire.
In an interview, the Commander, Nnewi zone of the Anambra State Fire Service, Mr. Chibike Ejezie, said the situation was under control.
Mr. Ejezie called on the people to avoid setting bushes ablaze in the dry season.
