STRENGTHEN SUPER EAGLES’ STRIKING FORCE— ENTHUSIASTS TELL COACH
REPORTER: UZOMA NWANKWO
Some sports lovers in Umuahia, Abia State capital, have called on the handlers of the Super Eagles to redouble efforts in making the team more formidable as they enter the knock out stage of the ongoing 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote D’Ivoire.
They made the call while reacting to the performance of the Super Eagles in the group stage matches.
One of them, a referee with the Abia State Sports Council, Mr. Justice Akparanta, said the team performed very poorly in the three matches played so far.
Mr. Akparanta pointed out that the team was able to score less than three goals in the games which he said was not encouraging after parading the best forwards in the tournament.
He urged the coach to work on the striking force before the commencement of the next round of play.
Another sports lover, Mr. Mike Offor, noted that the coach was unable to solve the team’s problem of goal scoring after three matches and wondered what would become of the Super Eagles when they meet a tough opponent in the next round of the competition.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria qualified to the next round with seven points behind Equitorial Guinea, which topped the group A table with same seven points; and more goals while hosts, Cote D’Ivoire, came third with three points and Guinea Bissau was last on the table with no point.
