NSCDC DESTROY 15 ALLEGED ILLEGAL OIL REFINERIES, ARREST 8 SUSPECTS IN ABIA

The Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command has smashed over fifteen illegal refineries at Obiakor community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Taking journalists round the sites of the illegal refineries, the state Commandant of the corps, Mr. Usman Alfadarai, said eight suspects were arrested through intelligence report.

He explained that his men on arrival at the scene were able to arrest four suspects while others escaped.

The NSCDC boss in the state warned vandals to stay away from the state, noting that the Corps is poised to deal decisively with anyone caught in the act.

He stated that the suspects would soon be arriagned in court after investigation into the matter had been concluded.

In an interview, one of the suspects, Godstime Friday, who claimed to be a bus driver said he and his colleagues were only trying to assist some women by conveying the oil product they purchased to the market when they were arrested by officers of the NSCDC.

Items allegedly recovered from the suspects included seven vehicles loaded with Jerry cans of oil products, two generating sets, pipes, valves and drums filled with substance suspected to be adulterated crude oil.
