Unemployed youths of Abia State origin are advised to maximize the opportunity of the ongoing Police Constables recruitment to be enlisted into the force.

The Commissioner representing Southeast in the Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, gave the advice when he paid a visit to Governor Alex Otti of Abia state in his country home Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

The Commissioner, who said that he was in the state to supervise the screening of applicants for Police Constables recruitment expressed regret that in this exercise about 2,000 people applied from Abia, while other states in the North part of the country were receiving about 30,000 applications.

He said that the commission was earlier mandated to recruit 10,000 persons into the Police Force, but President Bola Tinubu had approved the recruitment of additional 30,000 persons.

Responding, Governor Alex Otti, who described security as key to development, regretted there had been apathy among Abia youths towards joining the Police Force.

The Governor pledged provision of incentive to make it easier for interested persons, especially the indigent ones, to enlist into the Force.

He expressed delight that the efforts made to get the people of Abia to apply for the job yielded fruit, although the figure was still very low compared with what other states had.
